A Great Day Out

Well, its been a busy time since my last missive. I'm burning the midnight oil on the forthcoming Aston Martin book, still rewiring the Plus 2 for a break from the book and rushing about seeing Aston Owners and their cars.

However, Julia and I took a break on Sunday 26th September and took the DB9 down west to Bowood house for an AMOC meet. It was a lovely day - sunny and warm in stark contrast to today (Monday) with torrential rain first thing.

Here's a view of the field - my black DB9 is the fifth car from the right along from the back row:

The fuel 'crisis' had meant that some of the expected cars didn't turn up but it was a good turnout otherwise with a fine assortment of Astons present - mostly moderns but a smattering of classics all parked on the parkland in front of the house.

Here's the new DBX SUV alongside a DB11

And a DB4 with the house in the background:

And with the new Bond film out soon we had to have a DB5:

Despite the fuel issues the run there and back was relaxed with gentle cruising along the M4 getting my average mpg up a bit. In fact the DB9's computer was telling me that my distance to empty was going up for the first 30 or so miles down the motorway. The car performed faultlessly, and while the journey only took just over an hour each way, it varied from country lanes to motorways via decent 'A' roads and a bit of town traffic so was fun and interesting - apart from being stuck behind busses through Calne and Royal Wooten Basset! I have to say that I am very impressed with the DB9 - it is lovely to drive, handles excellently, is comfortable and quiet and of course looks good. Is it the ideal GT car? I don't know, but I reckon it is pretty close.
